Players & Teams

How are teams formed?
We hold a player evaluation weekend where players are rated. For 4th grade and under, the league uses those ratings to form balanced teams. For 5th grade and up, coaches conduct a blind draft. The more players who attend evaluations, the more balanced the teams will be.
Can my child play with their friends?
We accept friend requests and do our best to accommodate them, especially for younger age groups. We cannot guarantee placement on the same team in any age group. We encourage kids to enjoy playing both with and against their friends.
What does my child receive when they register?
All players receive a league-issued uniform. Players in 4th grade and under receive a participation trophy. For 3rd grade and older, we award Championship, Runner-Up, and Regular Season Champion trophies. We also recognize outstanding sportsmanship at all levels.
Can my child move up to an older age group?
Requests to move to an older age group may be approved but are subject to space availability. Boca Basketball reserves the right to adjust your child's age group based on each division's capacity during the Player Evaluation weekend. Do not assume a prior season's request will carry over.
Is there equal playing time?
Yes โ€” for 4th grade and under, coaches are required to use mandatory rotation sheets to ensure equal playing time for all players. Rotation sheets are available on our Coaching page.

Practices & Games

Where are practices held?
All practices are held outdoors in Boca Raton. The specific location and time is determined by your volunteer coach and communicated to your team directly. Come prepared for outdoor conditions โ€” bring water and appropriate clothing.
Where are games held?
All games are played at indoor facilities in Boca Raton. The specific gym location will be on your schedule, which is distributed before the season begins.
How often does my child practice?
Teams typically practice once per week on a weekday evening. The exact day and time is set by your volunteer coach.
What should my child bring to practice?
Since all practices are outdoors, your child should bring: a water bottle, athletic shoes (outdoor court shoes are ideal), comfortable athletic clothing, and a basketball if they have one. Sunscreen is recommended for daytime practices. Your coach may have additional requirements.
Can I leave my child alone at practice?
This is at your discretion and depends on your child's age and maturity. Since practices are held outdoors and run by a volunteer coach, we recommend parents of younger players (Kโ€“3rd grade) stay for the duration. For older players, confirm with your coach that they are comfortable supervising without a parent present before leaving.
What should my child wear to games?
Players should wear their league-issued uniform and bring indoor court shoes. Games are played indoors so outdoor or running shoes are discouraged on the gym floor.

Coaching

How do I sign up to coach?
Coach registration is open now for Fall 2026. Visit our Coaching page to register or go directly to the coach registration form.
Do I need coaching experience?
No experience is required. Most of our coaches are parents who love basketball and want to be involved in their child's season. We provide a coaches manual, rotation sheets, and a mandatory pre-season clinic to set you up for success.
What are the coaching requirements?
All coaches must complete a background check, earn a concussion certification (free online course, about 30 minutes), and attend the mandatory coaches clinic before the season begins.
Can I be an assistant coach?
Yes โ€” but assistant coaches are selected by the head coach, not the league. If you want to be an assistant, connect with a head coach directly. All assistants must also register and complete all the same requirements as head coaches.
How much time does coaching require?
Plan for one one-hour weekday practice per week plus one game each weekend during the season โ€” roughly 2โ€“3 hours per week total.
