Why volunteer coaches make Boca Basketball work
Boca Basketball is a premier recreational league in West Boca Raton — and for over 35 years, it has thrived because of parents like you. As a head coach, you'll lead a weekly one-hour practice and coach your team's game each weekend. You don't need to be a basketball expert — you need to love the game, love kids, and be willing to show up. We provide everything else: the rules, the manual, the rotation sheets, and a mandatory coaches clinic to set you up for success.

Ask any Boca Basketball coach what they got out of it and they'll tell you the same thing — it wasn't the wins. It was the huddle after a tough loss. It was watching a kid finally nail a layup they'd been working on all season. It was the end-of-year celebration when your team is together one last time.
Coaching here means coaching your own kid's team, in your own community, surrounded by families who care about the same things you do.

How it works
5 steps to becoming a Boca Basketball coach
Register as a coach
Complete the online coach registration form. This opens each season — we are currently registering coaches for Fall 2026.
Complete a background check
All coaches are required to pass a background check before working with players. Details are provided after registration.
Earn your concussion certification
Complete a free online concussion certification course — required for all coaches before the season begins. Takes about 30 minutes.
Attend the mandatory coaches clinic
Before the season tips off, all coaches attend a clinic covering best practices for running effective practices and games. Date will be announced after registration.
Get your roster and start coaching
You'll receive your team roster, schedule your first practice, and you're off. We're here to support you the whole way through.

Required for all coaches and assistant coaches before working with any players.
Concussion certification
Free online course — takes about 30 minutes and must be completed before the first game.
Coaches clinic
Mandatory pre-season clinic covering rules, rotations, and best practices for youth basketball.
Weekly commitment
One one-hour weekday practice per week plus one game each weekend during the season.
Assistant coaches are selected by the head coach. All assistant coaches must also be registered and complete all requirements above.

Common questions
What prospective coaches ask us
Do I need coaching experience?
No. Most of our coaches are parents who love basketball and want to be involved in their child's experience. We provide all the resources and training you need to run a great season.
Can I coach my child's team?
Yes — that's the most common reason parents volunteer. We do our best to assign coaches to their child's age group.
How much time does it take?
Plan for one one-hour weekday practice per week plus one game each weekend. Total commitment is roughly 2–3 hours per week during the season.
Can I choose my own practice day and time?
Yes — as head coach, you set your own practice schedule. You pick the day of the week and the time that works best for your family. Practices are held outdoors in West Boca Raton at a location of your choosing. Coaching fits around your life, not the other way around.
Can I choose my assistant coach?
Yes — head coaches select their own assistant coaches. All assistants must also register, complete the background check, concussion certification, and coaches clinic.
When does the Fall 2026 season start?
Player evaluations are August 15–16 and rosters go out August 19. Coaches should be registered and requirements completed before evaluations.
What age groups can I coach?
We have divisions from Kindergarten through 12th grade for both boys and girls. We'll do our best to match you with your preferred age group based on availability.
